How to play

  • 2–4 players
  • ranked

Goal and setup

Two to four players use 24 cards, from nine through ace. Everyone plays individually. Get rid of your cards to avoid receiving the letters P, A and N. Ranks rise in the order 9, 10, jack, queen, king, ace; suits do not affect strength.

Goal and setup

Playing cards

The holder of the nine of hearts starts by playing that card alone or all four nines. On later turns, play one card or four cards of the same rank, at least as high as the top card. Select the cards and confirm. One exception allows the other three nines to be played onto a pile containing only the nine of hearts.

Taking cards

Instead of playing, take up to three cards from the top of the pile. The bottom nine of hearts always stays on the table. If only two other cards remain, take those two. Taking cards ends your turn.

Ending a deal

Players with empty hands are skipped. When only one player has cards, the engine checks whether that entire hand can be played legally in one action. If so, nobody receives a letter. Otherwise, that last player receives the next letter.

Ending the match

Another deal starts after a short pause. Receiving the third letter, completing PAN, loses the match; the other players win. The table's game clock also applies.

Leaving a match

With at least two players remaining, existing letters are kept. The current deal is cancelled without assigning a letter; after a short pause, all 24 cards are redealt among the remaining players. Departing players forfeit. The last remaining player wins.
