Goal and roles
Five to eight players receive secret random roles: mafia, detective, doctor and citizens. There is one mafia member with five or six players and two with seven or eight. Mafia members know their allies. Citizens, doctor and detective form the town, which aims to eliminate all mafia.

Night
Mafia choose a victim and may use private chat. A uniquely most-voted target is attacked; a tie produces no victim. The doctor protects one person, including themselves, but cannot protect the same person on consecutive nights. The detective checks another person and privately learns whether they are mafia. Citizens wait. Confirmed choices are final; special roles may also skip acting.

Day discussion
Dawn reveals any elimination. Correct protection prevents the attack. Living players discuss suspicions and possible bluffs in day chat. Night and discussion have the room's selected time limit. Night lasts its full duration even after roles have acted.

Voting
After discussion, each living player may vote to remove another person or abstain. Voting lasts at most 30 seconds and may end once everyone votes. A uniquely most-voted player is removed; a tie removes nobody. Eliminated roles are revealed. Eliminated players no longer act or participate in game discussion.

Victory
Town wins when no living mafia remain. Mafia win when they equal or outnumber the other living players. Previously eliminated teammates share their team's victory provided they have not left the match. The engine also ends a stalled game after four cycles without elimination or after 40 nights. Mafia is a casual game.
